Is This The End Of An Era?

Is this the end of an era as we know it? Recently Facebook has unpublished a mass amount of pages. Thousands of pages gone in an instant. Nobody knows why. There’s absolutely no rhyme or reason to it. Ninety percent didn’t receive a warning that it was about to happen or a reason as to why it did.  Millions of hours of hard work just gone in an instant.

Has Facebook decided that it doesn’t like fan pages anymore, or pages at all? Many legitimate business pages were unpublished at the same time as all the fan pages. Its become the purge of 2016. Facebook has been ever so quiet about the whole thing. Not one press release or even acknowledgment to The Page Purge.  Page owners are horrified and beyond sad and angry. They have every right to be. It takes so much work to keep a page running.

On a glimmer of hope some pages have been given back and re-published. This has given the rest of us hope that maybe, just maybe, all the pages will be restored. Many of us have lost hope that this will happen and are actively looking for another website/social media to start over with. It’s like a ticking time bomb though. Will these other websites allow us, or will they do the same?

The rumors are running rampant as to why this is happening. Some believe FB is just on a giant power trip. Others believe it’s because pages have figured out how to earn money running them. One thing that we do agree on is that all if not most of the pages are willing to pay a monthly fee to continue being able to entertain our fans. We love what we do. I loved being able to interact with my fans on the various pages I either ran myself or helped run. We are all sad to see this happen.
