ANAHEIM, CA (CNN) – A little boy is out of the hospital and recovering from his injuries after he and his mother were attacked by dogs.

Security cameras captured footage of two large dogs attacking a 2-year-old boy and his mother outside their California home Tuesday.

In the chilling video, the boy was attacked first, ending up on the ground. His mother went to help, but the dogs attacked her too. She grabbed her son and ran for the front door of their house but couldn’t find her keys.

“It was just a constant battle for five to seven minutes of just terror,” said Spenser Bishop, the boy’s father, who was at work at the time of the attack.

Screaming and yelling for help, the mother shielded her son as the dogs bit at the two of them.

Neighbors came over and fought the dogs off. The animals were later taken away by animal control officers.

The family believes the dogs were in a neighbor’s yard and somehow got loose. They’ve hired an attorney.

“We will determine the history of these dogs and see if there’s additional responsibility from the criminal aspects that should be applied to this case,” the attorney said.

The little boy was taken to the hospital. Although he was later released, he’s recovering from extensive injuries.

“He has a big laceration in his face and his leg. He’s had to have multiple stitches. He had plastic surgery on his face. There’s no words to explain how you feel unless you have a child and see your child go through something like that or your wife,” Bishop said.
